A Gathering Of Eagles

Some kind souls decided to feed the eagles down at Goose Spit Indian Reservation so they would survive the cold spell.

Here’s what happened! A former teaching colleague took these
photos in front of his home. They are incredible!

Comox, B.C., Vancouver Island , Jan. 2009

  1. Holy COW that is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen! I can’t believe all of those eagles are in the same place, so incredible. Now I know where all of the “endangered to extinction” Ontario bald eagles are – right there getting restaurant service, lol.
Thank you so much for sharing :)

  3. LOL Meghann…I guess you’re right. I love eagles…I have had the privilege of seeing 2 of them here in Ohio. They were “planted” by the Wildlife Federation near our campgrounds. We only saw them twice, but it was fantastic! Have seen them on our trips out west, but again, only a few. I guess they spread the word…”Buffet being served on Vancouver Island; all eagles welcome!”

  5. That is incredible! I’ve only ever seen one eagle in the wild and it was in flight, I would have been stunned to see this in person!

  8. Oh wooooww! I’ve never seen that many eagles in one place before. Not even close. They’re normally quite solitary, aren’t they? These are some incredible photos. :)

  9. That was a lot of eagles. It was amazing that they allowed you to get this close for those shots. :)

  10. Ha! The sign probably said “do not feed the birds.” Awesome, but a little scary. Eagles are large enough to do serious damage to people.

  14. @ Barb: Hi my friend. Yes, you ARE lucky to have access to them all the time. I think they’re amazing!

@ Joy: Yes, I think they are quite solitary or with a mate. I think they hunt alone, but when we’d see one at the campground, the other was not far away. The rangers had “planted” a pair. I’m sure they were usually together.

@ BK: Extremely unusual that they should allow a photographer was so close. I don’t think this was the 1st encounter they had with humans so perhaps they were used to people.

@ Sharkbytes: LOL…you might be right. I’m not sure I would have been that close to them. I think they could inflict a lot of pain with that beak and those talons!

@ Pamela: You’re very welcome…glad you could use one of the pix as a background. The one you chose was my favorite too.

@ Anna: WOW is a good word for that, also astounding, amazing and awesome! LOL

@ Theresa: You’re welcome. Thanks for dropping by!

  19. Hi Jude…I agree with Joy that I was under the impression that eagles were solitary souls. I have never seen more than two at a time and I know they were a pair! I would have been awe-struck to have seen this many at one gathering!
