We All Need A Tree

After losing so many trees in a terrible windstorm last summer, I decided not to replace them. I miss them so much and regret that decision. After reading the following, I believe that I MUST replace them!
farm1 I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse, and after he had just finished a rough first day on the job, a flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric drill quit and his ancient one ton truck refused to start.

While I drove him home, he sat in stony silence.

On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands.

Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier.

“Oh, that’s my trouble tree,” he replied, “I know I can’t help having troubles on the job, but one thing’s for sure, those troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and the children…So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then, in the morning, I pick them up again.”

“Funny thing is”,
he smiled, “when I come out in the morning to pick ‘em up, there aren’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before.”

  5. I had heard a similar story a long time ago, but had forgotten. I’m sure it was a different person, but a few individuals practice the idea and keep it alive.

  6. Hi sharkbytes – Yes, I have heard variations on the story…I think one has to do with a “gold box” or something similar. Thanks for your comment and do stop back.

  14. BORZACKS: You could still have a tree. There are many at the nursury that can be grown indoors. Or you could use a plant for the same purpose or have a special box or container that you put your troubles in at night. I’ll bet there will be fewer in the morning than you remembered! Thanks for commenting.

MOM: You are so very welcome! Please stop back any time! Thank you for your comment.

TERRI: My back yard is FULL of trees. Have 2 grand old Oaks that the squirrels and I love. The 2 Walnut trees are loved more by the squirrels than by me…those things HURT when they fall. My front was so very bare after the storm. Didn’t seem like the same house. We bought the house because of the trees so I have made an appointment with the guy who sawed up the trees to come back in the spring to give us an estimate for replanting. Nice to “see” you again…thanks for commenting!
