Sweetest Thing

I thought this was most adorable thing I’ve read in a long time, but it made me cry. Wanted to share it with all of you!

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into
the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel, I blocked her view from a little accident I had in
the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today.
Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card, I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my
shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.

A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

This is certainly a different way to look at pet adoption…please make it your #1 option, save a shelter pet today.

Until next time!

  1. Oh, that is the sweetest thing I’ve read all day. I don’t know exactly why we anthropomorphize our pets but it seems to fill some deep need in us. I know my blood pressure equalizes when I cuddle my dog.

  2. Hiya fee. Oh yes , I agree with you on that. And my dog knows when I don’t feel good or am sad. She’ll come and lay her head in my lap and look at me with such mournful eyes that I just have to bend over and hug her. She’s a lab and would absolutely LOVE to be a lap dog. LOL Thanks for your comment!

  3. Great post Judy. The pictures are priceless and oh so precious! Our dog has been gone for 2 years now! I guess nothing compares to her. We just haven’t found the right one yet, but they are all so sweet. I’d take any one or all three of these. I’ve got to Russian Blue sisters though. Pretty little furballs!

  4. I love any kind of furballs, Barb. Had the sweetest ferret, was a tiny one…runt of the litter. She’s been gone now for 3 years, but she and my Abby were best friends! Abby would carry her around by her neck like she was a puppy, must have been Ab’s maternal instinct coming out. LOL Thanks for commenting, Barb.

  7. This has been the best thing I’ve read all day:-) What a great post. I do believe that the animals choose us- they really do. I adopt all of my animals and it’s tough to pick, so I let them do it! I currently have 5 rescues and foster regularly…..it’s a great joy.
I’ll have to tell the SPCA about this post- Thanks….

  8. Hi Maureen…thanks for your comment. Out lab, Abby, is a rescue dog as well, and the best dog I ever had! She was very loveable at the center. She sat up and put her paw on my lap. I was with my daughter who was looking to adopt…she didn’t, I did. Lady at the center said, “I think Abby has adopted YOU!”…I told her I thought she was right and brought her home…this was 10 years ago!
    Come back any time Maureen!

  22. Beautiful! I love this. <3 My family has always adopted (or picked up from the streets) all the animals we have. Seeing as we’ve had 20 cats, a dog and several other animals in the past 20 years….yeah. :) They’ve all definitely saved me!

  23. Hi storybeader! Shelter animals are the best! We love ours! Thanks so much for commenting and you’re welcome back here any time!

  24. Good for you Han-chan. I was ALWAYS bringing home some bedraggled orphan on my way home from school as a child. I would stop at all the houses and ask if they had lost a cat, dog, or whatever (I even brought home injured birds, a baby squirrel, 2 baby rabbits and a chipmunk) Mom would be SO upset, but we always nursed the wild ones back to health and set them free (we lived in a woods). The squirrel and chipmunk never left…stayed close to our house. I was only allowed to have 1 cat and 1 dog at a time, but I always found homes for the others. Thanks for commenting and come back any time!
