Mishmash

It’s not that I’ve run out of things to post…sort of…but I have all these little items cluttering my desktop. Ideas that have been stuck there with no place to go. So I am having a clean-up the desktop day and a mishmash of topics are going into one post.

The first is a pie chart that gives you some idea how my daily life unfolds now. It is a fairly accurate interpretation of my day with the possible exception that I would probably switch the working slice with the eating segment.

However, every single day, things do seem to disappear. It’s true! I’ll set something down, turn around to tend to something else and when I turn back “Whoosh”, whatever it was…vanished! Gone! Whether it’s a pen, notebook, or my date book. I call it my “date book” just to keep my husband wondering. It’s not really a date book, but a daily planner. When I mention “date book” to hubby, he’ll wander over to my desk and pretend to be looking for something, but I see him flip the pages of the planner to see just what it is I’m planning! HA! All my dates seems to be with physicians. Sad, but true. Nevertheless, it takes me most of the day to look for what has disappeared.

Now look what you can do with Alka Seltzer….It’s not just for upset stomachs anymore.

  • Clean a toilet. Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes,! Brush and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China .
  • Clean a vase. To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets.
  • Polish Jewelry. Drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the Jewelry for two minutes.
  • Clean a thermos bottle. Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary).
  • Unclog a drain. Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, and then run the hot water. Makes you wonder about ingesting Alka Seltzer, doesn’t it?

If any of you were wondering how Sam, the “adopted” kitty is doing…well, you can see that he’s doing just fine. He and Buckeye seem to be getting along fairly well. At least Sam is doing well, seems he is very comfortable in his new “bed”. Poor Buckeye still looks a bit put out by it all.

And last, but certainly not least are my twin granddaughters. Now, before any of you other animal lovers become distraught over this (and Grandma is with you on this), let me explain. Where the girls live, they are being overrun by deer and have to cull them every so often. Each fall, they have a Youth Hunt. It is done by lottery through the Department of Parks and Recreation and the girls’ names were drawn this year. Each team member must go through some extensive training, conducted by park rangers, including gun safety and hunting “etiquette”. The venison is distributed among several food pantries and helps to feed many people in need. The girls are really proud of themselves and are trying very hard to look the part of dedicated hunters.

  10. Thanks for commenting Lynne and Barb. Buckeye was always the head contender for all the pet affection the family had to bestow. Now that Sam has arrived, Buckeye has to take a back seat for awhile. He’s just happy he has Daddy and the kids all to himself when he goes for a walk and the kitty has to stay home. Come back soon you two!

  11. The pic of Buckeye and the new kitty is adorable! Boy I wish I had a picture of one of my cats with one of the dogs- it just doesn’t happen here:-) My miniature schnauzer who had to be euthanized this week (17 years old shown w/me on forums) was “BFF’s” with my Tuxedo cat- they didn’t cuddle but they laid by each other. We miss Sophie dearly.
