MORE THAN SEW SO

Hello to newcomers and welcome back to the rest of you!

Time to talk some more about passions!

My passion is many different types of crafts. I primarily concentrated on sewing for my 7 kids, then my grandkids. Now, in my “golden” years I have been relegated to sewing Halloween costumes for the grands. I have arthritis in my hands so I keep them exercised with knitting and crocheting. Not for profit, but for “charity”. I knit caps and hats, mittens and scarves to give to those in need.

Several of our dry cleaning establishments have a “coat drive” every year where people donate good used coats and jackets, the cleaners clean them, and then take them to the homeless shelters or children’s home. They will stick mittens and a hat or scarf in the pocket of each coat they donate. This is fun and takes very little time!

I also crochet hats using very soft yarn for cancer patients. I love knitting and crocheting afghans and lap robes to give away to family, friends and retirement centers/nursing homes. It keeps my hands and fingers limber and is easy to do while watching TV or listening to my CD’s which consist mostly of Country and Gospel.

I have done some needlepoint and cross-stitch. Love the “Precious Moments” cross-stitch and made some for my granddaughters.

I also have dabbled in candle making and jewelry making.

I wish I had become interested in quilting before my hands gave out and made it difficult for me to use scissors on several layers of fabric. Some of the quilts I have seen are so beautiful and intricate and I would have loved to be able to create something so nice.
